Maintenance Supervisor - Electric Shops

Job Summary

The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery is seeking an Electric Shop Maintenance Supervisor to manage our Shop and Electrical Craft. The goal is to improve operational availability, optimize equipment life cycle cost and achieve best in class reliability. This position leads a team of maintenance foremen and technical advisors that manage the refinery’s electricians. The hours of the position Monday- Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM, some after hours calls are required and support of TAR one to two times a year on average.

Key Responsibilities:

Routine Maintenance

  • Lead a team of maintenance foremen and technical advisors to maintain and improve operational safety and availability.

  • Ensure troubleshooting and repair of site’s Electrical Equipment.

  • Lead the Power Distribution Group that owns, operates, and maintains the site’s power distribution infrastructure.

  • Act as lead in discussions with Electrical Craft Union Representatives.

  • Manage implementation and continuous improvement of site’s Electrical Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.

  • Suggest improvements to Marathon’s Refinery Standard Practices and Reliability initiatives.

  • Manage technical advisors that work with the Reliability Dept to address bad actor equipment.

  • Ensure direct reports work with Reliability, Warehouse and Planning Depts to address / improve spare parts that are needed for electrical maintenance.

  • Interface with Marathon Electrical Advisory Group to share lessons learned and best practices.

  • Act as a site champion of the Electrical Safety Program.

  • Work with the Major Maintenance and TAR groups to support shutdown work scopes.

  • Participate in safety walks and field audits on a regular basis.

  • Oversee incident investigations by team members to determine root cause and identify corrective actions.

  • Maintain a personal development plan for employees to foster professional development to support career goals.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualification

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Must have at least 7 years of electrical experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry. Experience should be focused in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, protection relays, and generators.

  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards for electrical equipment.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical. Ability to work outside in an industrial setting requiring walking, climbing of ladders and wearing of appropriate PPE.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Ability to successfully communicate complex system information across various audiences, from hourly personnel to Refinery Leadership.

  • Understanding of Management of Change requirements and process.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a people leader is preferred.

  • Experience utilizing CMMS software. SAP experience is preferred.
