Marathon Petroleum Corporation Rotating/Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer in Anacortes, Washington

This position entails managing rotating and fixed equipment reliability at the Marathon Refinery in Anacortes, Washington. This includes troubleshooting existing issues, implementing corrective actions, and creating new reliability programs targeting longer run-times. The position requires a heavy focus on teamwork and collaboration. A successful candidate must work with all departments in the refinery, as well as various corporate entities.

Responsibilities

Listed below are responsibilities of the Rotating/Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineering position:

  • Works collaboratively with the site Rotating Equipment and Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineers.

  • Provides technical assistance/troubleshooting assistance in resolving rotating equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems; contact internal and external experts as required.

  • Develops scopes of work and routine maintenance execution work packages for reliability upgrades to address bad acting equipment.

  • Performs Life Cycle Cost Analyses (LCCAs) to justify equipment upgrades or replacements and assists in project development.

  • Provides technical expertise and support to capital project development.

  • Stewards Management of Change (MOC) activities for maintenance driven changes.

  • Champions Mechanical Integrity (MI) Program.

  • Reviews and approves relief device isolation forms.

  • Works with Inspection group to address identified issues on fixed equipment during scheduled inspections.

  • Calculates t-min values for fixed equipment.

  • Leads multi-department investigation teams to solve recurring equipment failures.

  • Helps develop and review turnaround work lists and validate scope for rotating and fixed equipment.

  • Provides leadership and decision-making skills during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outages regarding repair solutions.

  • Helps establish equipment monitoring plans and control limits.

  • Conducts post-audits to measure the effectiveness of significant reliability related projects and activities.

  • Displays a commitment to training and continuous improvement through innovation and mentoring of junior engineers, shop personnel, and interns.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • 5+ years engineering experience in heavy industry preferred.

  • Experience in refining or petrochemical industries, with maintenance/reliability experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with SAP preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting rotating equipment such as, but not limited to, pumps, compressors, and steam turbines.

  • Experience performing and/or reviewing API 579 Fitness for Service assessments for fixed equipment.

  • Experience maintaining Bolted Flanged Joint programs, including the development of tightening procedures and specifications for outages or for in-service activities.

  • Experience in applying ASME, NBIC, API 510, API 570, API 653, and other applicable codes and standards in the design, evaluation, repair/alterations of fixed equipment.

  • Experience with GE Digital’s Asset Performance Management (APM) and/or SAP.

    This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. It is currently posted at a Grade 11-12 level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
